About Spiritual Normie
Maybe you shouldn’t have any gurus — especially not me.
I’m not a guru. I’m on this journey, living life too. Spiritual Normie wasn’t created because I have all the answers, a perfectly regulated nervous system — I wish — or a Pinterest-perfect garden. I am a messy human with messy human emotions. This is my journey, my observations, the lessons I’ve seemingly learned and misunderstood, and the moments where I get humbled all over again.
I write about gardening, spirituality, meditation, wellness, bio-hacking, everyday observations about life, and the beautiful moments when all those things align. Sometimes the lessons show up in my garden. Sometimes they show up in meditation. Sometimes they show up through other people. And sometimes they show up when I lose the plot and get hit with the realization that every time I think I have ascended past the human experience, I get re-aligned — sometimes bluntly — back into being an eternal human student.
It’s rude. Amazing and life-altering, but rude. I’m not gonna lie.
I do not believe there is only one correct way to live, heal, grow, garden, pray, meditate, eat, think, or be. I still eat some of the poison food. I sometimes dissociate. I am still learning how to navigate phone addiction. I am not here to replace your intuition, your lived experience, your faith, your common sense, your discernment, or a qualified professional who has a professional license and a degree in that field.
I am here to share observations from my own life and hope that some of them resonate, make you feel less alone, or — if nothing else — make you laugh. Take what helps. Leave the rest. Disagree when you need to. You can even send me your feedback. I am still learning too.
The more I learn, the more I realize how much more I have to learn.
What this space is about
Spiritual Normie is a place for grounded curiosity. I love the mystical, but I also live in the real world — where I have laundry, weeds in my yard, limits in my body, and a constant need to balance the noise of the outside world. I feel like most of us just want to become a little more honest, kind, healthy, connected, and aware without pretending that we can transcend the human experience.
I love gardening, but I am not growing all of my food. I would love to get to the point of living the self-sufficient off-grid life, but in my most successful year so far, I harvested two side dishes of broccoli and the big leaves for the chickens to eat. This is 100% improvement over previous years.
But that is the nature of gardening: learning what works and what doesn’t. And water — who knew how important water was? I know, everybody, but you’d be surprised how long it took me to realize that was the issue. That’s what life is sometimes: taking forever to realize the simplest lesson because, for whatever reason, it felt complex until a small shift happened and suddenly it was all clear.
My garden is my retreat. A place to make one small corner of the world more natural, alive, and a place for God to thrive. I honestly try to fit into a perfect garden aesthetic, but I feel like gardening is more about letting nature express its wildness, and learning to love the unpolished expression of yourself along the way.
What I believe and has space to grow
I believe life is about embracing the unknown, and learning to ride the wave with grace and humility. And spirituality is the practice of doing so. Sometimes the spiritual practice is pulling weeds. Sometimes it’s apologizing when you reacted instead of responding. Sometimes it is drinking water, going outside, and admitting that you might just be hungry. Sometimes it’s realizing you were wrong. It is being humbled again, because you thought you were more than human and somehow were exempt from all the feelings and experiences.
I believe that God, Source, the Universe — whatever language fits — speaks to us in many ways. And sometimes it’s through the quiet observations in life, being open to what God is trying to teach you, and developing discernment and critical thinking skills.
I believe life is about balance. It’s learning how to keep one foot in discipline and one foot in flow. No teacher, tool, belief system, chart, supplement, practice, or person should replace your own discernment. It should help you refine it.
Including me. Especially me.
Why I write
I write because I feel like there is a message in all that I have learned on this journey. And it might just be: hey, it’s okay to just be you. Maybe you aren’t a starseed, the chosen, one of the 144,000, or aligned to an alien past. Maybe you are human and here to be your own unique expression of Source love. Sometimes that expression might just be loving your family, your neighbor, and life. Sometimes it is the small gestures of kindness you do when you think no one is looking. Sometimes those acts spread and have such an impact that you might never fully understand what they meant to someone else.
I don’t think we all need to be able to commune with the angels, guides, or entities. I think that would be awesome.
I believe most of us want the superpowers or psychic abilities we don’t have. I would love to be able to visualize in color and create my own images, or speak with spirits. I think my superpower, or psychic power, is my intuition and the ability to stand back and just let things grow sometimes, without smothering them with love or fertilizer. Sometimes our powers are subtle, and we just have to have the courage to let them grow.
I just never found a space that was like: yes, I love the spiritual realm and all its mystery, but I also have to clean my house, pick up the dog poo outside, and sometimes go to that 9–5 and grind because that’s where I am right now in life. Where is that middle ground for those of us who are firmly in the real world and might see things while meditating but have no clue what the hell it is?
I love the woo and I want to expand on my journey, but I also have to get the kids to school on time.
A note on advice
Nothing on Spiritual Normie is medical, legal, financial, mental health, spiritual, or life advice that should override your own judgment or the guidance of a qualified professional. This site is for personal reflection, entertainment, life observations, and curiosity. If something here resonates, wonderful. Use it to explore your own thinking and sharpen your discernment. If something doesn’t resonate, leave it. Or question it. Or send me a note, and we can discuss it. I honestly do not expect everyone to agree with me, and I am here to learn as well.
This page is just sharing my observations on life — the good, the bad, and the humorous.
The short version
I am not here to be your guru. I’m here as a fellow human, walking through life making observations, and attempting to learn my lessons with as much grace as God will allow.
Welcome to Spiritual Normie.
